Image & Likeness

Sometimes, it's hard to look in the mirror,

especially those days when conscience is ugly
and stands there looking at you nearer
than the sacrifice that lies on the altar bloody

and offered up to the heaven as a sin offering.
This is not my reflection I realize, looking
deep into my eyes deceived by my own faltering
spirit which upon the narrow path has lost footing

and slipped into the fiery flames of lustful
passion. Engulfed by vanity and pride
instead of shining the light of trust's fuel
which would demonstrate what dwells inside

my being which in this dark world reflects the brightness
of my Creator of which I am made in Its image and likeness.
